In the Art Gallery:
|
The first survey exhibition of work by Contemporary Artist Jennifer Steinkamp opens July 1 at The San Jose Museum of Art (SJMA). The exhibit will feature more than ten digital animation installation's, and offer an in-depth study of the artist's work from 1993 forward. "Steinkamp is arguably the most important video and new media artist of her generation," SJMA says in a press release announcing the exhibit. Her work explores human sensory experience through the melding of computer animation, digital media, experimental film, and architecture. In Fly To Mars, stills from which are featured at left, an animated tree evolves hauntingly through seasonal changes. The Steinkamp exhibit is part of SJMA's contribution to ZeroOne San Jose, a major contemporary art festival scheduled to be held August 7-13. The exhibit will travel to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Missouri, and to the Albright-Knox Gallery A book, Jennifer Steinkamp, by SJMA Senior Curator JoAnne Northrup, is being published in tandem with the show. |
